Galil Yiron - Kosher Wine Review
Winery: Galil Mountain Winery
Year: 2001
Type: Red
Country: Israel
Grape Variety: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot
Note: Aged for 16 months in oak barrels. Also, 2001 was the Shemitah Year in Israel, so you probably won’t find this vintage in the U.S., but try the 2002. [Thanks, Simmy!]
Alcohol: 14%
Purchase: FinestWine.com
Mevushal: No
Date Reviewed: 4/3/06
Color: 2.5 (of 3)
Note: A dark ruby red color. It looks just right.
Aroma: 6 (of 7)
Note: It has a very nice fruity aroma with lots of berries. Lots of cherry and plum scents along with rich oak and vanilla.
Taste: 9 (of 10)
Note: Well done! It starts with a light sweet berry flavor that gives way to the dryness of an oaky Merlot. It’s a wonderful combination that is timed very well in the mouth. This is one of those wines that is just as good as any non-kosher wine on the market. It will age beautifully, so put some aside.
Total: 17.5 (of 20)
Food: This goes well with a steak (or any roasted meat) or any pasta dish with red sauce. But drink it slowly and savor it. This is not a meal you should rush.

I didn’t see a way to email you so thought I might post a ? here in the Comments section. Do you accept samples of kosher wine for review? I import wine from Israel (some of which are kosher)? Thanks.
